The Context:
In my third year of university I took a class in Professional Perspectives. One of the modules in this class was to create a campaign to get people into beer, then to pitch our idea to industry professionals and my team created ‘Pull A Pint’. (Read More Fiction)
Our campaign would target those who either didn’t like beer or who needed aid expanding their repertoire. Inspired by dating apps like Tinder we decided to have an app which would quiz customers and match them with their new favourite beer using a complex algorithm.Picking up the Tinder idea and running with it we kept focused on the romance aspect, that’s why the “pull” in ‘Pull A Pint’, refers to the act of “pulling” a sexual prospect rather then literally pulling a pint behind a bar.
Additionally we came up with the idea for a van to drive around the country with a plethora of beers and showcase our services in person. This would build excitement and word-of-mouth advertising. We wanted to create an advert for this and that was my responsibility. Working with the romance theme I decided to parody the hit Channel 4 show First Dates. Using the First Dates’ format of interviewing guests, I wanted to fool viewers into thinking everyone interviewed were talking about their date experience only for a twist at the end to reveal they were talking about the beers they’d been matched with.
The Script
‘PULL-A-PINT’ COMMERCIAL SCRIPT (A service matching non-beer drinkers to a beverage that’s right for them. Acting like a dating service, we chose to parody the TV show First Dates).
